VIETNAM
Understanding the Education System and Workforce Training Needs
June 12-24, 2009

Hosted by
Swinburne University of Technology
with assistance by
Houston Community College

This Professional Development Program has been developed to include a mix of educational, historical and cultural experiences that will provide participants with an understanding of the context in which huge changes are taking place in education and training.

Vietnam is a country with a population of 85 million people, 65% of which are under the age of 30 years. Economic growth has been sustained over 7% for the past seven years and the government wants this growth rate to continue.

The government recognises that expanding the university system is critical to developing a healthy economy. The country is experiencing huge skill shortages in all industry sectors. The government is encouraging local institutions to promote training programs that meet the needs of society and businesses under the community college model.

The Vietnam Association of Community Colleges was established to facilitate development of the community college system in Vietnam and to promote exchanges between local and foreign community colleges. There are currently 13 community colleges in Vietnam situated mainly in the provinces throughout the country.

Throughout the program you will visit educational institutions, government ministries and cultural landmarks in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Ho Chi Minh City and Tra Vinh.
